Accident King Salmon, AK. 04-Jul-1991. About 15 minutes after takeoff while in cruise flight, the engine began running rough and smoking, then lost power. A forced landing was made on the tundra. Disassembly of the engine revealed that the 3 collector intermediate bearings had failed. Pilot and five passengers uninjured. Aircraft substantially damaged. NTSB report ANC91LA096.

Total time: at Jul-1991:- 11,655 hours.

Incident 06-May-1992. Engine failed in cruise. Tear down revealed mrc bearings, p/n 304r, on impeller shaft were installed in place of P & W 288943 bearings. Collector bearings had failed and caused supercharger to fail.
