Accident: La Ronge, SK. Lat 55.09N, Long 105.18W 12-May-1985. The float plane, equipped with a single swing-over type control column, was  s being utilized by two company pilots for a local training flight. The trainee occupied the left seat, and the supervisory pilot occupied the right. After the trainee had completed several take-offs and landings using various flap configurations, he attempted a simulated short-field, obstacle-clearance landing. Planning to land close to the far shore of a small tree-covered island, the trainee extended full flap and reduced the airspeed to 80 mph. The aircraft cleared the shoreline at about 50 feet above water level at a high rate of descent. The trainee added power; however, the application was too late to arrest the descent; the aircraft landed heavily, in about the correct attitude, and bounced back into the air. An overshoot was carried out, during which the supervisory pilot noticed that the right float attachment structure was damaged. The company was notified and rescue boats were dispatched. The crew donned life-jackets and switched seats. The supervisory pilot then carried out a precautionary landing from the left seat. As the aircraft settled on the water, the right float struts collapsed. The attempted manoeuvre was a relatively exacting one, entailing a steeply angled final approach and precise power handling. Although the trainee did have time on type, he had never flown a Turbo Beaver on floats. The supervisory pilot was not in a position to assume control of the aircraft, as he did not have direct access to a control column. On final approach, the trainee allowed the rate of descent to become excessive and recovery action was initiated too late to preclude a hard landing.
