USAF History

52-6129 was made available on 04-Jun-1953, accepted on 09-Jun-1953 by the 6600th Air Depot AMO (Air Material Overseas Unit), at Downsview, ON., after which it was delivered to the Continental Air Command at Mitchel AFB., Long Island, NY., where it was attached to the 2500th Air Base Wing on 25-Jun-1956. It then passed to the 2596th Flying Training Centre at Hensley Field in Texas where it remained until 01-Aug-1954. It now moved to Dallas Naval Air Station with the same unit where it remained until 10-Apr-1956.

Its next assignment was with the Training Command at Nellis AFB., NV., and the 3595th Combat Crew Training Wing. Here it remained until 31-Aug-1987 after which it passed to Luke AFB., AZ., with the 3600th Combat Crew Training Wing and then on 01-Jul-1958 to the 4510th Combat Crew Training Wing. Another assignment to the Air Defence Command followed on 06-May-1960 with an attachment to the 660th Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron at MacDill AFB., FL. This was only for a short period until 15-Jun-1960 after which another assignment saw it pass to the Strategic Air Command with the 4347th Combat Crew Training Wing at McConnell until 23-Jan-1961.

A further assignment, this time to the Air Material Command and the 2704th Aircraft Storage and Disposition Group now occurred until 14-Feb-1961. It remained with the AMC passing to the San Antonio Air Material Facility at Kelly AFB., TX., remaining until 15-Nov 1961 and then to Brookley AFB to the Mobile Central Air Depot until 19-Feb-1962 after which it transferred to the 2845th Air Base Wing at Tinker AFB., OK.

Its next assignment was with the Air Force Logistics command at Hagerstown, MD., and the Fairchild Aircraft Company Facility where it stayed until 18-Jan-1963 after which it appeared at Schilling AFB., KS., with the 310th Strategic Aerospace Wing of the Strategic Air Command. It was stored at MASDC Davis Monthan AFB., AZ., between 06-Jun-1965 and 21-Sep-1965 and then passed to the Rhode Island ANG (143rd Air Commando Squadron) at Theodore F. Green Airport when their U-10 Helio Courier aircraft were sent to Vietnam.
