USAF History

51-16480 was made available to the AMO (Air Material Overseas) unit of the USAF at Downsview on 21-Mar-1952 and accepted on 01-Apl before being delivered from Toronto to the San Bernardino maintenance facility at Norton AFB where it remained between 10-Apr-1952 and 03-Jun-1952 before moving to Japan and the 6400th Air Depot at Kisarazu and then the 6408th Maintenance Unit at the same location. It was then delivered on the 10-Sep-1952, to South Korea and the 10th Liaison Squadron at Yong Dong Po until the 22-Dec-1953.

The aircraft suffered category 4 damage (very severe) in a landing accident caused by bad weather at Chokhyon-Dong, Korea. 19-Dec-1953 and it was sent to the 6401st Field maintenance unit at Kimpo until 18-Jan-1954.But because of the severity of the damage, a return to Japan was called for and a stay at the 6400th Air Depot at Kisarazu lasted between 18-Jan-1954 and 07-Jul-1954, after which it was back to the 10th Liaison Squadron for continued service, which by this time had re-located to Osan ni until 10-Nov-1954 Remaining at this location further allocations to the 6171th Air Base Wing until 14-Dec-1954 and back to 10th Liaison until 15-Mar-1955 occurred.

Still at Osan ni a lengthy allocation to the 5th Air Force and the 58th Fighter Bomber Wing until 08-Oct-1957 preceded a transfer to the 6314th Air Base Group 08-Oct-1957 – 20-Mar-1960 when it was re designated Air Base Wing until 20-Jul-1961 and then Support Wing until a date still to be resolved.

It is understood to have operated with the 6200th Military Air Transport Wing at Clark AFB., in the Philippines before being struck off charge on 08-May-1967.
