Accident: 12 miles SE of Clova. Lat 47.48N, Long 75.15W. 29-Sep-1987. (Translated from French). The pilot, accompanied by four passengers on a VFR flight was returning to the main camp after a hunt. The weather conditions had degraded and the visibility had decreased, so the pilot decided to make a precautionary landing on a small lake. The landing was hard and the structure supporting the floats was damaged. The aircraft then swerved which could not be controlled and the aircraft struck the shore. No one was injured. Before the accident, everything worked aboard of the airplane. The weather conditions in the area were the following: Ceiling ragged clouds below 1,000 feet agl, visibility between three quarters of a mile and three miles, and showers. Isolated thunderstorm outbreaks were accompanied by heavy showers where the visibility was lower. A little before the accident, the pilot had followed the same itinerary, to meet passengers and encountered same weather conditions. The pilot decided to turn back when the frequency of showers increased and the visibility decreased. During the turn, the aircraft entered an area where the precipitation was strong and where he could only see downwards. The pilot noticed that the aircraft was flying over a small lake and he decided to land rather than continue flight in such bad. Visual landmarks were poor because the approach was made in haste and with very poor visibility producing the hard landing.
