Accident: Visor Creek, BC. Lat 59.50N, Long 125.50W. 28-Nov-1987. The take-off was the pilot's second attempt to depart from the 1,400-foot ski strip. The aircraft became airborne at an airspeed of 55 mph and with one third of the strip remaining. The flight continued a few feet above the ski strip until the aircraft overflew a 30-foot ravine which crossed the departure end of the runway at 90 degrees. The aircraft then settled and hit tree-tops; the airspeed had increased to about 70 mph by this time, and the pilot was able to turn toward a clear area and continue to his destination. After landing, small pine branches were found in the left ski cables and the bottom of the fuselage had been substantially damaged. The pilot reported that the weather at the time of the accident was clear and calm. The ski strip was at an elevation of 3,400 feet above sea level (asl) and was covered by eight inches of snow which had been packed by using snowshoes. The aircraft was 165 pounds under gross weight at the time of departure. The pilot reported that, after the aircraft became airborne, he lowered the nose down to maintain altitude and gain airspeed, but, as he crossed the ravine at the end of the airstrip, the aircraft lost altitude, either as a result of coming out of ground effect or due to a downdraft, and hit the trees. The aircraft became airborne at marginal flying speed. When the aircraft was over the ravine and out of ground effect, the aircraft was at too low an airspeed to climb and avoid the trees.

Accident: Pauingassi water base, MB. 28-Aug-2006. The Wamair Service & Outfitting Inc.,aircraft, was taking off from the Pauingassi water base when the aircraft's right float hit a submerged reef just as the aircraft was becoming airborne. The jolt was severe enough to activate the aircraft's ELT. The pilot was unsure of the damage and elected to continue on to the company's main base at Matheson Island, MB where the aircraft landed without incident. An approximate three-inch tear was observed near the keel area of the right float. The reef that was struck was a new one that appeared due to the lake's lowering water levels.
