USAF History

52-6092 was made available to the 6600th Air Depot AMO (Air Material Overseas Unit) unit of the USAF at Downsview, ON., on 30-Jan-1953, accepted 16-Feb-1953 and delivered to the Air Defence Command at Stewart AFB., NY., and the 4700th Air Base Group on 10-Mar-1953. It remained until passed to the 9th Liaison Squadron on the same base on 15-Apr-1953 before returning to the 4700th on 25-Sep-1953.

Its next allocation was to New Castle County Airport, DE., and the 525th Air Defence Group. It effectively stayed at this location until 10-Oct-1955 but also had a brief stay with the TAC at Langley and the 405th Fighter Bomber Wing from 06-Jul-1954 until 16-Jul-1954 and back with the ADC and the Middletown Air Depot at Olmstead between 15-Feb-1955 and 09-Feb-1955.

After New Castle it was next attached to Andrews AFB., MD., and the 85th Air Division. This was between 10-Oct-1955 and 22-Nov-1956.

Its next port of call was to the Ramore Air Station, a SAGE unit in ON., Canada, and the 912nd Aircraft Control & Warning Squadron. But as in the circumstances with other aircraft attached to ACW Squadrons it managed to escape to other locations from time to time. It this aircrafts situation these included to the 82nd Fighter Group, New Castle AFB., DE., from 18-Aug-1956 until later in the year (date unknown); the 2500th Air Base Wing at Mitchel AFB., NY., from 04-Feb-1957 to 21-Mar-1957  and to Downsview presumably for maintenance from 08-Apr-1957  and 24-May-1957. It ended its time at Ramore on 17-Dec-1961.

Its next allocation was to Kincheloe AFB., with the 507th Consolidated Maintenance Squadron remaining until 16-Apr-1962 after which the aircraft moved to Lowther AFB., ON.,, Canada and the 639th Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron until 27-Jun-1963. It was then back to Kincheloe and the 507th for just under three months until 05-Sep-1963. McGuire AFB., was the next stop where it was attached to the 539th Fighter Interceptor Squadron.

Its remaining USAF history is still to be researched but we are aware that it was with the 58th Tactical Fighter Training Wing, Luke AFB., AZ., in 1969 after which it passed to MASDC at Davis Monthan AFB., AZ on 21-Jul-1971. It was struck off charge on 25-Jan-1972.
