* A little history of the painting of N-2647:

Originally this aircraft was painted with a Stearman Vermillion flight stripe, also five feet of wingtips and registration the same red colour. No band on fin, registration also in Stearman Vermillion. The Socony Vacuum insignia was put on by J. Makin. Sprayed white by paint shop and a decal the same as a sample in stores, addedddd. The aircraft came back on 06-May-1952 for complete overhaul and respray. At that time it was stripped and repainted. the Flying Horse was painted in Fire Red along the fuselage, red wing tips three foot five inches, high on fin no band. A photograph was noted to be in darkroom records.
