USAF History

51-16523 was made available on 24-Jun-1952, accepted on 26-Jun-1952 by the 6600th Air Depot AMO (Air Material Overseas Unit), at Downsview, Ontario after which it was delivered to Pope AFB, North Carolina HQ of the 9th Air Force where it was assigned the 4th Liaison Flight on 02-Jul-1952. It then moved to Shaw AFB, Sth Carolina, for the 2nd Liaison, Sqd. on the 22-Jul 1952. Staying at Shaw AFB it then was attached to the 363rd Reconnaissance Crew Training Wing from 03-Jun-1954 as part of the 363rd Tactical Reconnaissance Wing.

It suffered an accident on 13-Apr-1955 5 mi. S of Fort Lawn, SC when it crashed following the pilot bailing out having run out of fuel after which the assignment was terminated. The code on the aircraft record card indicates the unknown acronym “GLG recommended”, but it assumed that as the pilot had bailed out the fate of the aircraft was fairly terminal.
