Accident. Nr Bayfield Lake, ON, 21-Jun-1980. The pilot had taken off into a south-westerly gusting wind for an 11 mile direct flight in a south-westerly direction to another lake. The pilot flew his “downwind” in a south-westerly direction. The intended direction was almost 180 degrees different from his take-off heading; however the pilot did not question his selection of landing path. During the turn to final, the pilot was concentrating on the shoreline and allowed the aircraft to stall. The craft entered an incipient spin at an altitude of about 250 feet from which the pilot was unable to recover before impact. One occupant received fatal injuries and four others received serious injuries. Wreck salvaged to be rebuilt. Was originally stored near Bear River, Nova Scotia. It was transported to Campbell River in May 2001. Last noted in Viking yard at Victoria Airport. Understood to be under rebuild at Sealand Aviation, Campbell River, British Columbia. Report A80O0051
