United States Navy - Litchfield Park Facility

Neil Aird © 09 September 1966

I made a very brief visit to this storage area in September 1966. Shortly afterwards, the remaining aircraft were transferred to the MASDC acreage at Davis-Monthan AFB.
I just pulled my log books from this visit. On the way to the Main gate I logged some 27 x Vertol HUP-2 Retriever helicopters , beyond the gate I saw five Temco TT-1 Pinto Jets parked, I believe only fourteen went to the Navy. There were some twenty more HUP-2 elsewhere. I noted about 33 x North American F1 Fury, 15 x Lockheed WV-2 Warning Star, 20 x Grumman SA-16/UF-1 Albatross, 14 x Fairchild C-119/R4Q-1 Flying Boxcar, 17 x Lockheed SP-2E Neptune, 6 x Douglas C-47 Skytrain, 3 x Douglas A3D-1 Skywarrior, 20 x Beech SNB-5 Expeditor, 2 x CH-37 Mojave, 2 x North American AJ-2 Savage, 1 x Boeing B-29 Superfortress. There were many, many Grumman F9F Cougar, Douglas F4D Skyray, and North American F3H Demon. I also recorded 2 x North American A-1E Skyraider and 5 x Douglas A4D Skyhawk. It was hard to make out types in the vast mass of tightly packed aircraft, as you can see below.
